Mini Huayhuash Trek – 3 Days
An unforgettable journey through one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world.
Day 1:
We begin our adventure with an early departure at 2:00 AM from Huaraz, embarking on a 7-hour journey towards Queropalca. Our starting point is at 3,800 meters, and after a beautiful ascent, we’ll hike for approximately 4 hours to reach Carhuacocha at 4,150 meters, covering around 9 km. The tranquility of the trek, combined with the breathtaking view of the Yerupaja peak—standing at 6,634 meters, the highest snow-capped mountain in the Huayhuash range and the second tallest in Peru—creates an unforgettable atmosphere. Our campsite, nestled beside a serene lagoon, offers a magnificent panorama, allowing us to connect deeply with the nature that surrounds us.
Day 2:
After a restful night, we rise at 6:00 AM to enjoy a nourishing breakfast, preparing for a truly remarkable day ahead. At 7:15 AM, we set off towards one of the most awaited highlights of the trek: the famous Three Lagoons and the Siula Pass at 4,800 meters. The ascent takes about 5 hours, with both challenging, steep sections and more gradual paths. We’ll reach a spectacular viewpoint by the first lagoon, just a short 10-minute climb away, where the panoramic beauty will take your breath away. After crossing the pass, we’ll descend to the Huayhuash campsite at 4,350 meters, a journey of approximately 3 hours covering around 15 km. Here, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch, followed by a rich, warm dinner, as we reflect on the incredible landscapes we’ve encountered.
Day 3:
On the final day of this extraordinary trek, we leave with hearts full of gratitude and a touch of sadness, knowing we are saying goodbye to the mountains that have welcomed us so warmly. We depart at 5:00 AM, heading downhill to the village of Tupac, located at 3,900 meters, where we’ll arrive by 6:30 AM. The peaceful valley, with its flowing river and the songs of birds, offers a heartfelt farewell to the majestic Huayhuash range. From Tupac, we will take a 1.5-hour drive to the village of Baños, followed by another 2-hour journey to La Unión. Finally, we will board a 4-hour minivan or bus ride back to Huaraz, where we expect to arrive between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
This journey is more than just a trek—it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, to connect with nature in its purest form, and to carry with you the memories of an experience that will stay with you forever.
