Vallunaraju is one of the most dominant Cordillera Blanca peaks seen from Huaraz The twin peaked mountain is easy to identify from the city.

The normal route via the north ridge is a moderately easy mountaineering adventure, where the approach is the biggest challenge. The climbing is straightforward and rewarding, with excellent panoramic views of the neighbouring peaks. This makes Vallunaraju one of the most popular peaks in the Cordillera Blanca, particularly for novice climbers.

DAY 1: HUARAZ – DRIVE TO LLACA VALLEY AND CLIMB UP TO MORAINE CAMP OF VALLUNA (4760M)

After Breakfast the Guide will pick you up at around 08:00hrs before you will drive east from Huaraz to the Llaca Valley. From here you will hike up to the Moraine Camp (approx. 2 ½ hours). The spectacular hike will provide impressive panoramic views of the neighbouring mountains. You will arrive at camp at around 13:00hrs for lunch. After lunch you will have the opportunity to check over your climbing equipment ready for the following day.

DAY 2: MORAINE CAMP – GLACIER TRAINING COURSE– MORAINE CAMP

After breakfast we will make the short hike from the Moraine Camp to the glacier. Here we will put on our climbing gear (crampons, harness, helmet etc.). You’ll then have the opportunity to practice some technical climbing and rope work on a 70-80 degree wall and some crevasse rescue systems. In the afternoon we will return to the Moraine Camp.

DAY 3: MORAINE CAMP –SUMMIT – BACK TO HUARAZ

On the third day we will leave at 03:00hrs, the summit approach to Vallunaraju (5686m) will take approximately 4 hours. From the top you will have some time to enjoy the impressive panoramic views of the neighbouring peaks. The descent to the Moraine camp will take around 1 ½ hours before collecting the tents and equipment and continuing to the road. We will then be transported back to Huaraz for approximately 16:00 or 17:00hrs
